Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist is designed to help reduce or help avoid accident risk. It recognizes the distance to the vehicle ahead through sensors (for example, radar), and, if necessary, warns the driver or applies emergency braking.
❈ Radar type FCA does not recognize for pedestrians in front.
WARNING
Forward Collision-avoidance Assist is a supplemental system and is not a substitute for safe driving practices.
It is the responsibility of the driver to always check the speed and distance to the vehicle ahead to ensure it is safe to use FCA.
WARNING
Take the following precautions when using Forward Collisionavoidance Assist :
Small addition: Keep the front radar area clean (free of heavy mud, snow, or ice) so your Hyundai Accent can detect vehicles ahead as effectively as possible, and remember that driver assistance may be limited in certain weather or visibility conditions.
• The driver can activate Forward Collision-avoidance Assist (FCA) in the Hyundai Accent by placing the ignition switch to the ON position and by selecting the following menu path on the LCD display:
'User Settings → Driving Assist → Forward Collision-avoidance Assist (FCA)'
FCA deactivates when the driver deselects the system setting. If you prefer to drive without this driver-assistance feature in your Hyundai Accent, confirm the OFF status on the display before continuing.

The warning light illuminates on the LCD display when you cancel FCA. The driver can monitor FCA ON/OFF status on the LCD display at any time. Also, the warning light illuminates when ESC (Electronic Stability Control) is turned off, because some Hyundai Accent safety systems coordinate their operation.
If the warning light remains ON when FCA is activated, have the system checked by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
The options for the initial Forward Collision-avoidance Assist include the following:
- Early :
When this condition is selected, the initial Forward Collision-avoidance Assist is activated earlier. This setting maximizes the amount of distance between the vehicle ahead before the initial warning occurs, which many drivers prefer for added time to react.
If the 'Early' condition feels too sensitive in stop-and-go traffic, select the 'Normal' condition.
Even though 'Early' is selected, if the front vehicle suddenly stops, the initial warning activation time may not seem fast in every situation. Always keep a safe following distance in your Hyundai Accent regardless of the setting.
- Normal :
When this condition is selected, the initial Forward Collision-avoidance Assist is activated normally. This setting allows for a nominal amount of distance between the vehicle ahead before the initial warning occurs and is suitable for most everyday Hyundai Accent driving.
- Late :
When this condition is selected, the initial Forward Collision-avoidance Assist is activated later than normal. This setting reduces the amount of distance between the vehicle ahead before the initial warning occurs.
Select 'Late' when traffic is light and when driving speed is slow, but remember that a later warning provides less time to respond.
Small addition: If you frequently drive your Hyundai Accent in heavy urban traffic, many drivers find 'Normal' to be a balanced choice, while 'Early' may be more comfortable for highway commuting where longer following distances are common.
FCA is on and ready when FCA is selected on the LCD display and when the following prerequisites are satisfied:
- ESC (Electronic Stability Control) is on.
- Driving speed exceeds approximately 6 mph (10 km/h). (FCA is only activated within a certain speed range.)
- When FCA recognizes a vehicle in front. (FCA may not recognize every obstacle or provide warnings and braking in every situation, so do not rely on FCA to stop the vehicle in instances where the driver sees an obstacle and has the ability to apply the brakes).
WARNING
FCA produces warning messages, warning alarms, and emergency braking based on the level of risk of a frontal collision, such as when a vehicle ahead suddenly brakes or when there is insufficient following distance from the vehicle in front. In the Hyundai Accent, these alerts are designed to support the driver’s decision-making, not replace attentive driving.

This initial warning message appears on the LCD display with a warning chime, prompting the driver to increase attention, prepare to brake, and create more space ahead.

CAUTION
The driver should always use extreme caution while operating the vehicle, whether or not there is a warning message or alarm from FCA.
WARNING
FCA braking control cannot completely stop the vehicle nor avoid all collisions. The driver is responsible for driving safely and controlling the vehicle.
WARNING
FCA logic operates within certain parameters, such as the distance from the vehicle, the speed of the vehicle ahead, and the driver's vehicle speed. Certain conditions such as inclement weather and road conditions may affect the operation of FCA.
WARNING
Never deliberately drive dangerously to activate the system.

In order for FCA to operate properly, always make sure the sensor cover or sensor is clean and free of dirt, snow, and debris. Dirt, snow, or foreign substances on the sensor cover or sensor may adversely affect the sensing performance of the sensor, which can reduce FCA effectiveness on your Hyundai Accent.
NOTICE
Small addition: In winter conditions, clear packed snow or ice from the front bumper area before driving your Hyundai Accent, and remember that heavy rain, fog, or glare can reduce sensor performance—stay alert and be ready to brake at all times.

Forward Collision Avoidance Assist (FCA) disabled.
Radar blocked
If the radar sensor cover becomes blocked by dirt, snow, slush, or road debris, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) operation may stop temporarily. If this occurs in your Hyundai Accent, a warning message will appear on the LCD display to indicate the radar is not able to detect properly. Remove any dirt, snow, or debris and clean the radar sensor cover before operating FCA again.
FCA will operate normally once the foreign substance is removed and the sensor area is clear. However, FCA may not properly operate in some environments (for example, open terrain), where few objects are detected immediately after turning the engine ON. Always continue to drive attentively and keep a safe following distance in the Hyundai Accent, even when FCA is available.
Small addition: In winter conditions, check the front bumper area frequently—packed snow or ice can quickly cover the radar zone and temporarily disable Hyundai Accent FCA until the area is cleared.

) will illuminate and the warning message will appear for a few seconds. After the message disappears, the master warning light (
) will illuminate. In this case, have the Hyundai Accent inspected by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.WARNING
WARNING
In these cases, you must maintain a safe braking distance, and if necessary, depress the brake pedal to reduce the driving speed in order to maintain a safe distance.
Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) is designed to monitor the vehicle ahead on the roadway through radar signals to warn the driver that a collision is imminent, and if necessary, apply emergency braking.
In certain situations, the radar sensor may not be able to detect the vehicle ahead. In these cases, FCA may not operate normally. The driver must pay careful attention in the following situations where Hyundai Accent FCA operation may be limited.
The radar sensor performance may be limited in the following situations, and extra caution is required when driving your Hyundai Accent:
The performance of Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) in the Hyundai Accent may be limited when driving on a curved road.

The front radar sensor recognition system may not detect a vehicle traveling ahead on a curved road. This may result in no warning alarm or braking when intervention is required.
Always pay close attention to road and driving conditions, and if necessary, depress the brake pedal to reduce your driving speed in order to maintain a safe following distance.

The front radar sensor recognition system may fail to detect a vehicle ahead on a curved road, which may result in no warning or braking when necessary.
Always remain alert and ready to brake manually to ensure safe driving in your Hyundai Accent.

• Driving on a slope
The performance of Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist may be reduced while driving uphill or downhill. The front radar sensor recognition system may not detect the vehicle in front, which could result in unnecessary warnings and braking, or no warning and braking when required. When the system suddenly recognizes a vehicle ahead while cresting a slope, sharp deceleration may occur.
Always keep your eyes forward when driving uphill or downhill, and if necessary, depress the brake pedal to reduce your speed and maintain a safe distance.

• Changing lanes
When a vehicle abruptly changes lanes in front of you, FCA may not immediately detect that vehicle. In such situations, you must maintain a safe braking distance and be prepared to apply the brakes manually to reduce your driving speed.

When driving in stop-and-go traffic and a stopped vehicle ahead merges out of your lane, FCA may not immediately detect the new vehicle now in front of you. Maintain a safe braking distance and reduce speed manually if required.

• Detecting the vehicle in front of you
If the vehicle ahead has cargo extending rearward from the cab, or if it has higher ground clearance, special attention is required. FCA may not detect extended cargo or elevated rear structures. In these situations, maintain a safe braking distance from the rearmost object and reduce speed manually if necessary.
Information
In some situations, FCA may be temporarily canceled due to electromagnetic interference.
Information
This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules.
