Limp Home Mode
Limp Home Mode features a fail-safe function that prevents dangerous situations in the event of a transmission failure. The vehicle will be driven in limp home mode if the transmission malfunctions. In this mode, the transmission operates at a minimal functionality level (fixed shifting, limited shifting, reverse, neutral), making it possible for the vehicle to reach a service center.
• Fail safe function : Prevents dangerous situations from developing in the event of a malfunction
• Limp home function : Maintains minimal functionality (Drive, Reverse, and Neutral) in the event of a malfunction, making it possible for the vehicle to reach a service center.
Trouble symptom | Suspected area | Remedy |
Poor shift quality | Faulty drive pulley speed sensor | Inspect the drive pulley speed sensor & connector |
Faulty driven pulley speed sensor | Inspect the driven pulley speed sensor & connector
Faulty turbine speed sensor | Inspect the turbine speed sensor & connector
Faulty solenoid valve | Inspect the solenoid valve
Faulty CAN communication | Inspect the CAN communication line & controller (TCM/ECM)
Faulty Transmission Control Module(TCM) software | Inspect the TCM and replace it if necessary.
After replacement, input hydraulic characteristics and perform TCM adaptive value learning.
TCM learning not performed | Perform the learning procedure again after deleting "IVT learning value"
Faulty E-module | Inspect the E-module & connector
Poor hydraulic pressure control | Inspect the transmission hydraulic pressure
Poor hydraulic pressure supply | Check the fluid level
No oil characteristics input after replacement of TCM or Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT) | Input the hydraulic characteristics
Slipping in the IVT, Damaged clutch/brake | Replace the IVT
Faulty position switch | Inspect the position switch & connector
Shifting shock | TCM learning not performed | Perform the learning procedure again after deleting "IVT learning value" |
No hydraulic characteristics input after replacement of TCM or IVT | Perform the TCM adaptive value learning after hydraulic characteristics input
Poor hydraulic pressure control | Check the IVT hydraulic pressure
Poor hydraulic pressure supply | Check the IVTF level
Improper installation of the IVT | Tighten the mounting bolt to the specified torque
Damaged driven/drive pulleys, clutch/brake | Replace the IVT
Abnormal noise from transmission | Damaged bearing/ parts stuck inside | Replace the IVT |
Low IVTF level | Check the fluid level
IVT shifting disabled | Damaged pulley chain belt | Replace IVT |
Damaged gear/clutch/brake | Replace IVT |
