Follow Normal Maintenance Schedule if the vehicle is usually operated where none of the following conditions apply. If any of the following conditions apply, you must follow the Maintenance Under Severe Usage Conditions. In other words, Hyundai Accent service intervals may need to be shorter when driving conditions are tougher than average.

  • Repeated driving short distance of less than 5 miles (8 km) in normal temperature or less than 10miles (16 km) in freezing temperature
  • Extensive engine idling or low speed driving for long distances
  • Driving on rough, dusty, muddy, unpaved, graveled or salt-spread roads
  • Driving in areas using salt or other corrosive materials or in very cold weather
  • Driving in heavy dust conditions
  • Driving in heavy traffic area
  • Driving on uphill, downhill, or mountain roads repeatedly
  • Using for towing or camping, and driving with loads on the roof
  • Driving as a patrol car, taxi, other commercial use of vehicle towing
  • Frequently driving under high speed or rapid acceleration/deceleration
  • Frequently driving in stop-and-go conditions
  • Engine oil usage which is not recommended (Mineral type, Semisynthetic, Lower grade spec, etc.)

After 10 years or 100,000 miles, use severe maintenance schedule.

Information

  • As it is normal for engine oil to be consumed during driving, the engine oil level should be checked on regular basis.
  • The engine oil change interval for normal operating conditions is based on the use of the recommended engine specification. If the recommended engine oil specification is not used, then replace the engine oil according to the maintenance schedule under severe operating conditions.

Maintenance Under Severe Usage Conditions (Smartstream G1.6)

The following items must be serviced more frequently on cars normally used under severe driving conditions. Refer to the chart below for the appropriate maintenance intervals. Severe usage service helps keep your Hyundai Accent dependable when driving patterns are demanding.

Driver's and passenger's front air bags Your vehicle is equipped with a Advanced Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) and lap/shoulder belts at both the driver and passenger seating positions. In the Hyundai Accent, these systems are engineered to work together, with the seat belt serving as the primary restraint. The SRS consists of air bags which are located in the center of the steering wheel and the passenger's side front panel pad above the glove box.

- Disassembly     • Use fender covers to avoid damaging painted surfaces. • To avoid damage, unplug the wiring connectors carefully while holding the connector portion.     • Mark all wiring connector and hoses to avoid misconnection. • To release the fuel system pressure before removing the engine assembly, start the engine without fuel pump relay.
