Hyundai Accent (HC): Automatic climate control system / Manual Heating and Air Conditioning

You can also operate the heating and cooling system manually by pressing buttons other than AUTO. In this mode, the system follows your selections in sequence, while functions you do not adjust may still be managed automatically.

When pressing any button except the AUTO button while using automatic operation, the functions not selected will be controlled automatically.

1. Start the engine.

2. Choose the desired airflow mode. For better comfort and quicker results in your Hyundai Accent, select:

- Heating: Hyundai Accent HVAC mode icon for heating airflow - Cooling: Hyundai Accent HVAC mode icon for cooling airflow

3. Set the temperature control to the desired position.

4. Set the air intake control to the outside (fresh) air position.

5. Set the fan speed control to the desired speed.

6. If air conditioning is desired, turn the air conditioning system on.

7. Press the AUTO button again whenever you want to return to full automatic control.

When starting the Hyundai Accent in cold weather using manual temperature control, use the following method to improve heating:

- Turn off or lower the blower right after starting the engine.

• Allow the engine to warm up during this time since air from the heater will still be cold.

- After a few minutes of warm-up, increase the fan speed and adjust the temperature setting toward hot to deliver warmer airflow sooner.

Mode selection

Hyundai Accent climate mode selection button

In the Hyundai Accent, the Mode selection button lets you choose where the ventilation air will exit the system, so you can target comfort and visibility quickly without taking your attention off the road.

Each press cycles the outlet pattern in a fixed order, making it easy to move from cooling the cabin to clearing glass when conditions change:

Face-Level (B, D)

Air is directed mainly through the instrument panel outlets toward the upper body and face. You can fine-tune comfort by adjusting each vent’s direction and opening, which is especially useful for keeping the driver comfortable while giving passengers their own airflow path.

Bi-Level (B, C, D, E)

Hyundai Accent bi-level airflow icon (face and floor)

Air is split between the face outlets and the floor outlets. This balanced setting in the Hyundai Accent often feels comfortable in mild weather, helping keep your hands/upper body cool while maintaining warmth around your feet.

Floor-Level (A, C, D, E)

Most of the airflow is routed to the floor. A smaller portion is automatically directed toward the windshield and side window defrosters to support clear vision, which can be helpful during damp or cool conditions.

Floor & Defrost (A, C, D, E)

This setting sends the majority of airflow to the floor and the windshield at the same time, with additional air to the side window defrosters. Use it when the Hyundai Accent cabin needs heat but the glass also needs attention (light fogging or cold weather).

Defrost-Level (A, D)

Airflow is aimed primarily at the windshield, with some air delivered to the side window defrosters. Choose this mode to clear fog, frost, or condensation as quickly as possible.

Information

For faster defogging in the Hyundai Accent, keep the air intake in the fresh air position and use A/C as needed to remove humidity. Avoid covering the dashboard vents with objects.

Instrument panel vents

Hyundai Accent instrument panel vents and vent control lever

The instrument panel vents can be aimed using the small vent control lever. Adjusting the vent direction helps you prevent drafts to the face while still circulating air throughout the Hyundai Accent cabin.

Temperature control

Hyundai Accent temperature control knob

Turn the knob to the right to raise the set temperature, or turn it to the left to lower it. Each step changes the target temperature by approximately 1°F / 0.5°C.

When the knob is set to the lowest temperature setting, the air conditioning may operate continuously to maintain maximum cooling. For comfort and efficiency, gradually move the setting higher once the Hyundai Accent interior has cooled.

Air intake control

Hyundai Accent air intake control button (fresh air/recirculation)

Use this button to choose between outside (fresh) air and recirculated cabin air. The selected intake mode can noticeably affect cooling speed, window clarity, and overall cabin freshness.

Recirculated air position

Hyundai Accent recirculated air position icon

With recirculation selected, air from inside the passenger compartment is pulled back through the heating and cooling system and conditioned again. This can help the Hyundai Accent cool down faster and may reduce outside odors for short periods.

Outside (fresh) air position

Hyundai Accent outside fresh air position icon

With fresh air selected, outside air enters the vehicle and is heated or cooled based on your settings. Fresh air is generally best for maintaining alertness and keeping the windshield clear during longer drives.

Information

Using the system in the fresh air position is recommended for most driving.

Prolonged heater operation in the recirculated air position (without air conditioning selected) can promote windshield and side window fogging, and the cabin air may become stale.

In addition, extended A/C use with the recirculated air position selected can dry the air inside the Hyundai Accent passenger compartment more than expected.

WARNING

  • Continued use of the climate control system operation in the recirculated air position can cause drowsiness or sleepiness, that may cause loss of vehicle control resulting in an accident. Set the air intake control to the outside (fresh) air position as much as possible while driving.
  • Continued use of the climate control system operation in the recirculated air position (without the air conditioning selected) may allow humidity to increase inside the vehicle which may fog the glass and obscure visibility.
  • Do not sleep in a vehicle with the air conditioning or heating system on. It may cause serious injury or death due to a drop in the oxygen level and/or body temperature.

Fan speed control

Hyundai Accent fan speed control knob

Set the fan speed by turning the fan speed control knob. Higher settings move more air through the vents and can speed up heating, cooling, and defogging.

Pressing the OFF button stops the fan. In the Hyundai Accent, you can still adjust mode and air intake selections as long as the ignition switch remains in the ON position.

Information

For better sound quality, fan speed may automatically slow down for a couple of minutes when you activate voice recognition or hands free.

NOTICE

Operating the fan when the ignition switch is in the ON position could cause the battery to discharge. Operate the fan when the engine is running.

Air conditioning

Hyundai Accent A/C button and indicator light

Press the A/C button to turn the air conditioning system on or off (the indicator light will illuminate when A/C is active). Using A/C in the Hyundai Accent can also help remove moisture from the cabin air, supporting clearer windows in humid weather.

OFF mode

Hyundai Accent OFF button for climate control

Press the OFF button to shut down the climate control system. You may still operate the mode and air intake buttons while the ignition switch is in the ON position, which can be useful if you want fresh airflow without fan operation.
