WARNING
Windshield heating
Do not use the
or
position
during cooling operation in extremely humid weather. The difference between the temperature of the outside air and that of the windshield could cause the outer surface of the windshield to fog up, causing loss of visibility could cause an accident resulting in serious injury or death. In this case, set the mode selection knob or button to the
position and fan speed control knob or button to a lower speed.
• For maximum defrosting, set the temperature control to the extreme right/hot position and the fan speed control to the highest speed.
• If warm air to the floor is desired while defrosting or defogging, set the mode to the floor-defrost position.
• Before driving, clear all snow and ice from the windshield, rear window, side view mirrors, and all side windows.
• Clear all snow and ice from the hood and air inlet in the cowl grill to improve heater and defroster efficiency and to reduce the probability of fogging up the inside of the windshield.
NOTICE
If the engine temperature is still cold after starting, then a brief engine warm up period may be required for the vented air flow to become warm or hot.

To defog inside windshield
1. Select any fan speed except "0"
position.
2. Select the desired temperature.
3. Select the
or
position.
4. The outside (fresh) air will be selected automatically. Additionally, the air conditioning will automatically operate if the mode is selected to the
position.
If the air conditioning and outside (fresh) air position are not selected automatically, press the corresponding button manually.
To defrost outside windshield

1. Set the fan speed to the highest (extreme right) position.
2. Set the temperature to the extreme hot position.
3. Select the
position.
4. The outside (fresh) air and air conditioning will be selected automatically.
To defog inside windshield

1. Select the desired fan speed.
2. Select the desired temperature.
3. Press the defroster button (
).
4. The outside (fresh) air position will be selected automatically.
If the outside (fresh) air position is not selected automatically, adjust the corresponding button manually.
If the
position is selected, lower
fan speed is adjusted to a higher fan speed.
To defrost outside windshield

1. Set the fan speed to the highest (extreme right) position.
2. Set the temperature to the extreme hot (HI) position.
3. Press the defroster button (
).
4. The outside (fresh) air position will be selected automatically.
If the
position is selected, lower
fan speed is adjusted to a higher fan speed.
To help reduce the probability of fogging up the inside of the windshield, the air intake or air conditioning are controlled automatically according to certain conditions such as
or
positions. To cancel or return the defogging logic, do the following.
Manual climate control system
1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
2. Turn to the defroster position (
).
3. Press the air intake control button at least 5 times within 10 seconds.
The indicator immediately blinks 3 times with 0.5 seconds of interval. It indicates that the defogging logic is canceled or returned to the programmed status.
If the battery has been discharged or disconnected, it resets to the defog logic status.
Automatic climate control system
1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
2. Press the defroster button (
).
3. While pressing the air conditioning button (A/C), press the air intake control button at least 5 times within 3 seconds.
The air intake indicator will blink 3 times with 0.5 seconds of interval. It indicates that the defogging logic is canceled or returned to the programmed status.
If the battery has been discharged or disconnected, it resets to the defog logic status.
Additional tip for Hyundai Accent owners: If windshield fogging is frequent, keep the cabin filter clean, avoid recirculation for long periods in wet weather, and run the A/C briefly (even in cooler seasons) to help remove moisture from the air.
In the Hyundai Accent, the Auto Defogging System (ADS) is designed to keep your view clear by reducing the chance of interior windshield fog. It automatically monitors humidity near the inside glass and makes smart airflow and A/C adjustments to help maintain visibility in changing weather.

Auto defogging helps prevent the inside of the windshield from misting over by automatically sensing moisture on the inner surface of the windshield and responding before fog becomes heavy.
The Auto Defogging System operates when the heater or air conditioning is ON, and it can intervene even if you are driving the Hyundai Accent in stop-and-go traffic where cabin humidity often rises.
Information
The auto defogging system may not operate normally when the outside temperature is below 50 °F (-10 °C).

When the Auto Defogging System is active, the indicator will illuminate to confirm that the system is working to clear the glass.
If high levels of moisture are detected inside the vehicle, the Auto Defogging System will operate in the following order to improve defogging performance:
Step 1: Switch to the outside (fresh) air position
Step 2: Turn ON the air conditioning (if needed)
Step 3: Direct airflow toward the windshield
Step 4: Increase airflow toward the windshield for faster clearing
If the air conditioning is OFF, or if the recirculated air position is manually selected while the Auto Defogging System is ON, the Auto Defogging System indicator will blink 3 times to notify you that your manual selection has been canceled for effective defogging in your Hyundai Accent.
To cancel or reset the Auto Defogging System
Press and hold the front windshield defroster button for 3 seconds when the ignition switch is in the ON position. When the Auto Defogging System is canceled, the ADS OFF symbol will blink 3 times, and “ADS OFF” will be displayed on the climate control information screen.
When the Auto Defogging System is reset, the ADS OFF symbol will blink 6 times with no audible signal.
Information
NOTICE
Do not remove the sensor cover located on the upper end of the windshield glass.
Damage to system parts could occur and may not be covered by your vehicle warranty. If you suspect a malfunction in your Hyundai Accent defogging functions, have the system checked by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
The rear window defroster on the Hyundai Accent is designed to clear frost, fog, and thin ice from the rear glass to help maintain rearward visibility, especially in winter or wet conditions.
NOTICE
To prevent damage to the conductors bonded to the inside surface of the rear window, never use sharp instruments or window cleaners containing abrasives to clean the window.
If you want to defrost and defog the front windshield, refer to the "Windshield Defrosting and Defogging" section in this chapter.

■ Manual climate control system

■ Automatic climate control system
The defroster heats the rear window to remove frost, fog, and thin ice from the interior and exterior of the rear glass while the engine is running.
Information
If your Hyundai Accent is equipped with side view mirror defrosters, they will operate at the same time you turn on the rear window defroster to help clear mist or ice from the mirrors.
