Information

  • In cold and wet climates, door locks and door mechanisms may not work properly due to freezing conditions. If ice is present, remove it carefully and avoid forcing the handle or key.
  • If the door is locked/unlocked multiple times in rapid succession with either the vehicle key or the door lock switch, the system may stop operating temporarily to protect the circuit and prevent damage to system components.
  • The two press unlock setting can be changed in the User Settings mode on the cluster, allowing you to choose driver-door-only unlock or all-doors unlock behavior.

Information

If electrical power to the door lock switch is not available (for example, due to a discharged car battery) and the trunk is closed, you will not be able to open the trunk until power is restored. Plan accordingly if you need access to the trunk in an emergency.

WARNING

  • The doors should always be fully closed and locked while the vehicle is in motion. If the doors are unlocked, the risk of being thrown from the vehicle in a crash is increased.
  • Do not pull the inner door handle of the driver’s or passenger’s door while the vehicle is moving.

WARNING

Do not leave children or animals unattended in your Hyundai Accent. An enclosed vehicle can become extremely hot, causing death or serious injury to unattended children or animals who cannot escape. Children might operate vehicle features that could injure them, or they could encounter other harm, including risks from someone gaining entry to the vehicle.

WARNING

Always secure your vehicle.

Leaving your vehicle unlocked can allow theft or unauthorized entry into the vehicle.

To secure your Hyundai Accent, while depressing the brake, move the shift lever to the P (Park) position, engage the parking brake, and place the Engine Start/Stop button in the OFF position. Close all windows, lock all doors, and always take the key with you.

CAUTION

Opening a door when something is approaching may cause damage or injury. Be careful when opening doors and watch for vehicles, motorcycles, bicycles, or pedestrians approaching the vehicle in the path of the door.

WARNING

If you remain in the vehicle for a long time while the weather is very hot or very cold, there are risks of injury or danger to life. Do not lock the vehicle from the outside when someone is in the vehicle.

Additional tip for Hyundai Accent owners:

If your door locks, Smart Key, or remote key operation becomes inconsistent, check the key battery first, then check for interference sources (phones, transmitters), and have the system inspected by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer if the concern persists.

Auto Door Lock/Unlock Features

Impact sensing door unlock

In your Hyundai Accent, all doors will automatically unlock if a significant impact causes the air bags to deploy. This feature is intended to help occupants exit the Hyundai Accent more quickly after a serious collision and may also assist first responders.

Speed sensing door lock

When enabled in the instrument cluster settings, the Hyundai Accent can automatically lock all doors once vehicle speed exceeds 9 mph (15 km/h). This convenience and security feature helps reduce the chance of an accidental door opening while driving.

For added convenience, all of the doors will automatically unlock after the vehicle is turned off. Depending on your Hyundai Accent configuration, unlocking behavior may also vary with shift position and other driver-selectable options.

You can activate or deactivate Auto Door Lock/Unlock features from the User Settings mode on the cluster LCD display. Review these settings after purchase or after a battery reset so your Hyundai Accent operates exactly the way you prefer.

Child-Protector Rear Door Locks

Hyundai Accent child-protector rear door lock lever location on rear door edge

The child safety lock is provided to help prevent children seated in the rear from accidentally opening the rear doors. The rear door safety locks should be used whenever children are in the Hyundai Accent, even on short trips.

The child safety lock is located on the edge of each rear door. When the child safety lock is in the lock position, the rear door will not open if the inner door handle is pulled; however, the door can still be opened from the outside when the main door locks are unlocked.

To lock the child safety lock, insert a key (or a suitable flat screwdriver) (1) into the hole and turn it to the lock position. To allow a rear door to be opened from inside the vehicle, unlock the child safety lock before driving.

WARNING

If children accidentally open the rear doors while the vehicle is in motion, they could fall out of the vehicle. The rear door safety locks should always be used whenever children are in the vehicle, and adults should confirm the locks are set correctly before departing.
